Tragedy struck in Ondo State over the weekend after a 54-year-old man, Joseph Ojo, set his five stepchildren ablaze.
The incident happened at Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nigeria.
It was gathered that the man made the move after claiming that his wife, the children’s mother, had upset him.
Sources claimed that Ojo poured petrol in the children’s room while they were sleeping and set the room on fire.
One of the children was burnt to death while others suffered severe injuries and are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
According to the source, his wife and their 18-month-old twins, however, escaped from the inferno with minor injuries.
Confirming the incident, Funmi Odunlami, Ondo police spokesperson, said Joseph had been arrested.
She added that the investigation has commenced and would be concluded before charging the suspect to court for alleged arson and murder.
